Knights of old were repeatedly called to recognize that life is a gift and they were to live for something more than themselves.
Knights of old love for God provided the motivation and moral framework on which their work took shape. Knights believed they owed allegiance first to the Kingdom of God and to society as a whole, rather than merely to their earthly lord. The love for God provided the why for defending the defenseless, helping the helpless and loving the unloved.
